Rachel Garside, a junior in business marketing and supply chain from Texas
Garside related to "The Blind Side" (2009), a film about football player Michael Oher as it reflected her own family's sports-focused dynamic. She resonated with the mother character, who reached out to the lonely male lead, seeing herself in that role.
Growing up, despite busy schedules filled with sports, Garside and her brother prioritized sharing at least one meal together as a family.
Garside, a psychology minor, prefers documentaries to true story films and enjoys watching serial killer documentaries to study human behavior. These films have increased her awareness of her surroundings, making her think about the unseen experiences of those around her.
Her media communications class has also led her to be skeptical of films labeled “based on a true story,”
